IPL Acne

What can be treated?
Inflammatory acne on the face, neck and chest. Currently only recommended for Nordic skin types. Each of Ellipse's products are tested and medically documented.

How is the treatment carried out?
A consultation is always carried out before treatment with IPL for acne, during which we go through the information sheet, the treatment itself and what happens afterwards.

All makeup and skin cream must be removed prior to treatment. During Ellipse treatment, an applicator is laid on the skin and an intense pulsed light (IPL) is directed into the skin so that the small blood vessels that supply the sebaceous glands are heated. This leads to reduced production of sebum and oil.

At first, you will require 4 treatments with 3-week intervals. All bacteria cannot be removed permanently, and you should therefore expect that it may be necessary to repeat the treatment course. How long the effect lasts between each course of treatment will vary. The effect may also be strongly influenced by the products you use at home for daily skin care.

The treated area may be slightly red after an Ellipse treatment, and you may feel slightly sunburned. If you have areas of pigmentation, these may become somewhat darker, although this is transient and lasts only a few days.

The area to be treated should not be exposed to the sun for 4 weeks before and 4 weeks after the treatment. You should also avoid self-tanning lotions for 2 weeks prior to the treatment. It is an advantage if you avoid smoking during the final 4 hours before treatment.

How does the treatment work?
Second generation Intense Pulsed Light (I ² PL) is more effective than first generation since it has an additional filter that removes infrared light (this is absorbed by the fluid in the tissue). This makes for a safer treatment that is more effective in that it uses less energy and does not need external cooling. Light from the applicator is absorbed through the skin's outer layer by the haemoglobin in the thin blood vessels that take nutrients to the sebaceous glands.

Thus, during treatment, one achieves the correct penetration depth and optimum absorption of haemoglobin in the thin blood vessels that take nutrients to the sebaceous glands. The short burst of light is set to heat up the target to the correct temperature without damaging the surrounding tissue. The risk of side effects is thus also reduced, and the effect is the prevention of excess production of sebum and oil, which cause the formation of acne.
