Restylane is a gel consisting of non-animal hyaluronic acid that closely resembles the body's own hyaluronic acid.  Restylane provides immediately visible results and has a long-lasting, though not permanent effect. How is Restylane treatment carried out?

A consultation is always carried out before performing treatment with Restylane. During the consultation, you will receive comprehensive information regarding the preparations prior to the treatment, the treatment itself and what happens afterwards. 

The nurses at Ellipse Klinikken will offer guidance about what best suits the individual client. 

Most people prefer to have an anaesthetic before treatment with Restylane. We use either a cream or an injection for anaesthetizing (dental anaesthetic). In this way, the Restylane treatment is performed with minimal discomfort.

Restylane is injected into the skin via a thin needle. Restylane comes in 7 different types based on molecular size, and each type has to be placed in a specific skin layer. Ellipse Klinikkens nurses have special expertise in this process. 

The treatment takes from 30-50 minutes. It is normal after treatment to feel some discomfort, such as redness, swelling, pain, itching, bruising or tenderness in the treated area. This usually passes within a few days, but may last a maximum of 1-2 weeks. 

How does Restylane work?  

Restylane is a clear gel based on hyaluronic acid that resembles the body's own hyaluronic acid. The hyaluronic acid in Restylane is not animal-based, and therefore you do not take a skin test. There is also a minimal risk of allergic or hypersensitive reactions. Restylane has a unique ability to attract water, which ensures the volume is maintained even when Restylane begins to dissolve. 

Restylane provides immediate effect in most cases. The effect is long-lasting, but not permanent. After an initial treatment, we recommend a new treatment after 4 months to maintain the result. The effect of treatment with Restylane can then last from 6-12 months, depending on the treated area, skin type, lifestyle and age. Due to the tissue type in the lips, the duration of the effect will be a shorter.

Can everyone be treated with Restylane?  

In general, anyone can be treated with Restylane, but we do not treat pregnant women or women who are breast feeding. Also, you should not be using blood-thinning medication or have active skin diseases in the area you wish to have treated.
