IPL Vascular lesions

With its broad spectrum of wavelengths, IPL has the ability to effectively treat many different conditions, such as  burst blood vessels/broken capillaries/vascular lesions, pigmented lesions and hair removal. In that it uses an additional filter that removes infrared light, it uses less energy and therefore does not need external cooling. This provides for a safe and more effective treatment.

IPL
(Intense Pulsed Light) uses white light composed of many frequencies (wavelengths) as compared to lasers, which use only one wavelength (colour).

Each of Ellipse's products are tested and medically documented.

How is the treatment carried out?

A consultation is always carried out before treatment with IPL for vascular lesions. During the consultation, we go through the information sheet, the treatment itself and what happens afterwards.

Before treatment, the skin is cleansed, and we apply a gel to enhance light penetration into the skin so that it reaches the areas it will treat. The blood contains haemoglobin, which absorbs light and converts it to heat. This heat destroys the protein that is found in the walls of the blood vessel, which results in the collapse of the vessel wall, and the vein will gradually disappear after treatment.

We can treat most types of vascular lesionsvon the face, neck and chest, as well as red scars from acne/pimples.  You should count on an average of 2-5 treatments with approximately 4-week intervals.

During treatment, the correct penetration depth and optimum absorption are achieved for what is to be treated.  The short burst of light is set to heat up the target to the correct temperature without damaging the surrounding tissue. The risk of side effects is then also reduced. In order for the treatment to be successful, the blood vessels must be less than 2-3 mm in diameter.

Immediately after treatment, one can be slightly red and feel warm. Due to the pressure in the blood vessels, there may occasionally be a bluish discoloration immediately after treatment. This is temporary and can be hidden with makeup.

In order to undergo treatment, you should not be tan, and you must not have been in the sun or used self-tanning cream during the last 4 weeks before treatment. After treatment, you should use cream with SPF 30 and not expose the treated area to the sun for the following 4 weeks.

Can everyone receive IPL treatment for vascular lesions?

In general, anyone may receive IPL treatment for vascular lesions with the exception of the following:

• Pregnant women.

• Those with a skin infection in the proposed treatment area.

• Those who are on medication that causes sensitivity to light.

• Epileptics (can be treated, but notify the therapist before the commencement of treatment)
